Protection and Restoration of Vasse-Wonnerup Wetlands and Geographe Bay Coastal Habitats
Details:The Vasse-Wonnerup wetlands are internationally recognised for their rich biodiversity and importance for water bird breeding and habitat. The wetlands are currently under threat from excessive nutrients, particularly phosphorus and nitrogen which cause algal blooms, entering the system from the surrounding catchment. The coastal habitats of Geographe Bay are recognised for the role in providing a sense of place for the community and as habitat for the threatened species, the Western Ringtail Possum.

These urban habitats are threatened by urban intensification and expansion, weed and feral animal invasion and The project will undertake weed and feral animal control in the catchment and will help to maintain and enhance existing values through the creation of habitat linkages and buffer plantings. Community engagement and awareness raising is a key component.
