A Natural Heritage Trust application was submitted on behalf of the Land Conservation District Committees. The project was successful in receiving funds for a three-year period to ensure progress towards the sustainable management, rehabilitation and conservation of rivers. Specifically to improve the health of these river systems by protecting foreshores and remnant vegetation and expanding revegetation activities. The project was linked to the implementation of river action plans and provided financial assistance to landholders.Specific on-ground works that were subsidised through this project included: fencing, site preparation, vermin control, planting, stock troughs and stock crossings. A Co-ordinator was employed to advise landholders on suitable projects. Over the three-year period 101 projects have been developed throughout the catchment, resulting in 144km of protective fencing and 190,000 seedlings planted.
