From July to November 2009 project officer Jenelle Carter undertook an evaluation of the Ludlow and Vasse River Action Plans in the Upper Vasse area through the Healthy Waterways project. This information was used to gauge changes in landholder knowledge, attitudes and behaviour and the extent to which on ground works have been carried out since the RAPs were developed.
The evaluation of both rivers consisted of a walk and talk with landholders along the river on their property and then a landholder interview consisting of questions relating to their knowledge of the RAPs, their knowledge of GeoCatch and to record on-ground activities such as fencing, weed control, revegetation etc and looking at any changes in foreshore condition since the RAPs were implemented.
Much of the value in undertaking these reviews is making links and developing relationships with landholders in the catchment. Of particular value has been the creation of a list of on ground works that landholders are interested in completing should funding allow.
This review process is now being repeated on the Sabina River, also identified as a recovery catchment in the Water Quality Improvement Plan.
